Exploration of Indic wisdom, Tantra, Shakti, embodiment and menstrual wisdom.
Overview
The journey explores the body as a site of consciousness, wisdom, creativity and transformation, drawing from Indic philosophical and Tantric traditions alongside expressive arts and therapeutic practice.
Movement, creative expression and embodied enquiry provide pathways for participants to experience these philosophical and archetypal ideas, not simply as concepts, but as lived, felt and expressive dimensions of the body.
Tantra is open to all adults who are deeply interested in working with the body.
Expressive arts therapy, which uses creative processes like painting, music, and movement, aligns naturally with Jungian principles by allowing symbolic expression and access to the unconscious. Through imagery and metaphor, expressive arts facilitate deep self-exploration and healing, helping individuals uncover inner conflicts, integrate shadow aspects, and connect with universal archetypes, thus supporting personal transformation and psychological growth.
Authentic Movement is a simple but profound movement discipline in which the mover moves with her/his eyes closed in front of a witness. The mover is not ‘performing’ for the witness but instead waits to see what the body suggests, thus experiencing the sense of ‘being moved’ as opposed to ‘moving.’ As the mover moves, she also tracks her movement, refining her own inner witness, accentuated by the external witness who tracks the mover and offers her own responses to the movement. This facilitates a journey into the inner world of the psyche. The Authentic Movement practice brings alive the transformation/healing possible with compassionate witnessing. It creates a safe and sacred space within which we can encounter both our wounding and our potential. This embodied encounter with more than one way of being results in a far more expansive sense of Self. We begin to access that part of ourselves that is greater than our wounding, the Self with a capital S as defined by Jung.
Syllabus

01.
Tantra and the Sacred Body
This module introduces the Tantric worldview and establishes the philosophical ground for the course. The body is explored not as separate from consciousness or the sacred, but as a living expression of reality. The emphasis will be on embodiment, immanence and the possibility of the body as a source of perception, imagination, knowledge and expression. Participants will be introduced to a way of working with the body that does not immediately separate the psychological, spiritual and material dimensions of experience.

02.
Shiva and Shakti — Consciousness, Power and the Living Body
This module introduces the foundational Shakta Tantric relationship between Shiva and Shakti. Shiva and Shakti will be explored as consciousness and its inherent power of manifestation, with the body as a living field in which stillness and movement, awareness and expression, witnessing and participation meet. The three fundamental powers of Shakti—iccha shakti, jnana shakti and kriya shakti—will be introduced as the movements of desire or intention, knowing and creative action.

03.
The Wounded, Remembering and Awakening Body
This module explores the body through Indic understandings of samskara, vasana, granthi, spanda, Shakti and kundalini. The body is approached as carrying patterns and impressions of experience while simultaneously holding latent creative and transformative potential. The movement of kundalini offers an image of what may lie coiled, unexpressed or not yet awakened. Trauma and wounding will be present as one dimension of the exploration, but the primary emphasis remains on the body’s capacity for movement, expression and transformation.

04 & 05.
Maiden and Mother — Emergence, Desire and Creation
Drawing upon the menstrual mandala, this module explores the archetypal movements of Maiden and Mother as phases of cyclical embodied intelligence. The Maiden is associated with emergence, curiosity, desire, possibility and becoming, while the Mother brings creation, fecundity, nurturance, relationship and the capacity to bring something into form. Participants will explore the movement from impulse to expression and from desire to manifestation through expressive arts processes. The menstrual mandala will be explored as an embodied map that can illuminate recurring movements within creativity, psyche and life.

06.
Priestess and Crone — Discernment, Release and Transformation
Continuing through the menstrual mandala, this module explores the inward-turning movements represented by the Priestess and Crone. The Priestess brings discernment, truth, attention, sacred boundary and inner authority, while the Crone represents release, endings, dissolution, simplification and wisdom. The module explores the body’s movement not only towards creation and expression, but also towards withdrawal, completion and letting go. Through expressive arts, participants will engage with liminality, transition and transformation.

06 & 07.
Kali — Shakti, Time and Transformation
The final module will explore Kali within the Shakta Tantric tradition as a powerful manifestation of Shakti. Themes may include Kali and kala (time), creation and dissolution, transformation, the cremation ground, the changing nature of form, and the relationship between Kali and Shiva. Through expressive arts and embodied enquiry, participants will explore the movement of form into transformation and the possibility of new emergence. The module will bring the course to a close with the understanding that Shakti is present not only in creation and expression, but also in change, dissolution and renewal.

Sukhvinder Sircar is an accredited group process facilitator and life coach and her deep understanding of human behaviour and aspirations support her facilitation work. Her ‘Joyous Woman!’ workshops are hugely popular and transformational. Through these workshops, she facilitates men and women to come back to their true, joyous, and divine selves in a powerful way.
Brinda Jacob-Janvrin is a movement-based expressive arts therapist and a performer with more than 30 years of performance experience. A qualified counsellor, she has been working extensively with movement and arts therapies since 2003. A practitioner and facilitator for Authentic Movement and Natural Dreamwork, Brinda is passionate about the arts, the mysterious workings of the Psyche-Soma and connections between the Body and the Earth.
Brinda is deeply interested in working with the Unholy Trinity (as described by C. Jung) of the Body, the Shadow and the Feminine as portals into the deeper Self. Her work with the feminine and the body has led to the firm belief that reclaiming and having agency around our desire is not only an antidote to the voices and violence of patriarchy, but also a path towards true empowerment. This in turn has led to the creation of the Desire project in 2017.
